A Dallas pedestrian accident occurred on Thursday, January 20th, when a 53-year old man was struck and killed by a DART bus at the West Transfer Station as he stepped off the curb. The accident happened around 6:45 a.m. near the intersection of Griffin St. and San Jacinto Blvd. in downtown Dallas.

According to Mark Ball, with the Dallas Area Rapid Transit, the man was transferring from one bus to another when he was hit by the oncoming bus. The bus that hit the man was not believed to have been traveling at a high rate of speed as it had just pulled out from a stop and was headed toward a driveway.

As soon as the Dallas bus driver saw the man, he hit the brakes on the bus immediately. Witnesses stated the man's jacket hood was pulled up, possibly causing his view to be obstructed, however the exact cause of the accident is not yet known.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken by ambulance to Parkland Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Dallas PD blocked off the area for several hours so they could interview witnesses to the accident. The Dallas Police Department and DART police are currently investigating this tragic Dallas pedestrian accident to determine whether the pedestrian or the bus driver was at fault.
