Is Apple Choosing iPhone 'Life' Over Your Family's?

Texting while driving safety editorial. Is Apple's Technology Not Able to Support Distracted Driving Apps? It is, so why doesn't it? Distracted driving developers and advocates are hoping that Jobs and his team will worry less about the iPhone crashing, and more about the crashes on our roads that can be prevented. Millions are at risk of car accidents or worse if Apple does not open their software developer's kit (SDK) to these applications, or at a minimum offer their own. Granted, it's not Apple's job to install or force us to use the application, but it's always better when we have that choice.

Distracted Driving Now Amongst Deadliest Road Hazards

More people are dying in car crashes caused by distracted driving than by drinking and driving. The most dangerous driving diversions are caused by hand held devices. But what other habits fall into the distracted driver category? Accidents.com editorial team used what we call the Virginia Tech 6-second rule to determine what we deem a potential road danger. According to a 2009 study by Virgina Tech Transportation Institute, when traveling at 55 mph, a driver texting for 6 seconds is looking at the phone for 4.6 seconds of that time and travels the distance of a football field without their eyes on the road.
