Arizona officials respond to two deadly crashes

Authorities in Arizona have been busy over the last two days responding to reports of deadly crashes between cars, motorcycles and tractor trailers.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, on February 27, one man was killed after he sustained serious injuries in a crash between his motorcycle and a car just outside of Tucson, police said.

Authorities responded to the crash on La Cholla, near the intersection of Ina and La Cholla, at about 7 p.m. that night. The Northwest Fire District was the first on the scene, getting to the crash site about three minutes after the crash was reported. First responders said a man, reportedly in his 50s, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. Reports show he was wearing his helmet when the crash occurred.

The media outlet reported that paramedics rushed the man to the University of Arizona Medical Center, where he was taken to the facility's trauma unit. There, he succumbed to his injuries, Northwest Fire spokesman Captain Adam Goldberg said in a report on the matter.

Shortly after, authorities had to rush to Interstate 10 in Tempe, where a semi tractor trailer accident left one person dead and snarled traffic for hours during the early morning commute, ABC 15 News reports.

According to the news source, the Arizona Department of Public Safety performed a preliminary investigation of the accident, and announced that the driver was killed in the crash. Carrick Cook, and officer with the DPS stated that the driver reportedly lost control of the truck, which caused the vehicle to crash into the side guard rail. The impact was so great debris was hurled into oncoming traffic, damaging two other vehicles.

Once the truck hit the walls, a third vehicle was involved in the accident. Investigators say they do not yet have a reason why the driver may have lost control of his rig. Video of the accident has surfaced, which shows the truck's cargo flipped onto its side after the initial crash. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to calm the flames, the news source stated.

All in all, Cook said the accident resulted in a "chaotic scene" that left people stuck in traffic for hours.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, there were 103,423 accidents throughout the state in 2011, 754 of which were fatal. Those who have been injured in such a crashed may want to contact an accident attorney to pursue legal action.
