Bereaved Iowan parents suing reckless high school driver

Every year, teen driving accidents continue to put fear in the hearts of parents every time their children take the wheel.

Mackenzie Lown, a freshman at Clear Creek Amana High School in Iowa, was being driven by her friend Zachary Swenka in October 2011. Swenka was driving at speeds of 100 MPH when he was going through an S-curve and crossing the bridge. According to the Press Citizen,  Swenka lost control and swerved right into an oncoming vehicle, killing Lown in the process.

Lown's parents are suing Swenka and the owner of the vehicle for negligence, reckless driving and failure to control the vehicle properly.

"Zachary Swenka’s conduct constituted willful and wanton disregard for the rights and safety of Mackenzie Lown," the lawsuit states.

Whether a victim or a culprit of an accident, an individual may benefit from being represented by a lawyer. Victims can rest assured their attorney will retrieve a justified compensation, while a culprit can rely on their lawyer to make sure their liability doesn't exceed a reasonable amount.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, there are an average of 400 motor vehicle deaths every year in the state.
