Driver flees after fatal New York car accident

A man from Stephentown, New York, reportedly left the scene of the accident after flipping his car on Thursday, June 27, leaving behind an injured man who later died, the Albany Times Union reports.

According to the news source, Rensselaer County Sheriff Jack Mahar stated deputies were dispatched to Cranston Road at about 12:50 a.m. after receiving a call saying a car had struck his vehicle and then spun off the road into the woods. Mahar said the driver who made the call reportedly attempted to help the man in the wreck, but the driver got into a car as a woman pulled up and drove off.

Later, the man, identified as 20-year-old Brendan Hoffman, told his father that there had been a passenger in the car with him. His father then phoned the police at 4:58 a.m., the media outlet stated. When deputies returned to the wreckage, they found 24-year-old Christopher Baker, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, there were 315,377 accidents throughout the state in 2010, up from 314,974 the previous year. Those who have been injured in a similar crash are encouraged to consult an accident lawyer to discuss legal action.
