Fatal crash in Brooklyn claims three lives

Police officers in New York City are investigating a two-car accident that fatally injured a mother-to-be and her husband on March 2.

According to The Associated Press, Raizy and Nachman Glauber were on their way to a hospital in Brooklyn, when the livery cab that they were traveling in was hit by a BMW, with the driver and his passenger fleeing the scene before emergency services arrived. The couple, who had been married for just over a year, were expecting their first child and were going to the hospital after Raizy complained of feeling unwell.

Accident attorneys and local law enforcement officers are now looking for the driver of the BMW, which hit the cab with such force that the engine ended up in the backseat, which was where Raizy was sitting. The pregnant 21-year old was ejected through the back window and ended up under a parked tractor-trailer, according to witnesses, while her husband, also 21, was pinned in the vehicle and had to be cut free by emergency services.

The Glauber's, who were Orthodox Jews and did not own a car, were taken to local hospitals where they were pronounced dead from blunt force trauma. Doctors managed to deliver the baby by cesarean section, although the infant died from his injuries on March 4. The driver of the cab suffered minor injuries in the accident and was released from hospital.

With the crash still under investigation, police officers have asked witnesses to help in identifying the BMW driver or his passenger, both of whom are reportedly still at large.

The young couple have already been buried by by members of their community, as Jewish laws call for burial of the dead as soon as possible. The funeral of their baby boy is expected to take place soon, with a spokesman for the family saying that they want the driver to face the maximum penalty for his actions.
