Felony charges brought on West Virginia man after fatal motorcycle crashby Wanda Derllump, January 20th, 2012 Probable cause has been found that will allow felony charges to be brought against a man from Hagerstown, West Virginia, after he was accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash in 2011, the Herald-Mail reports. According to the news source, Berkeley County Magistrate Joan V. Bragg stated on Thursday that Steven Edward Thompson, 45, may be presented to a grand jury for possible indictment in the case. Thompson has been charged with driving under the influence causing the death of Lorena Beth "Lori" Roberts, 43, and leaving the scene of an accident with death, court records show. Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash, which took place on April 14, 2011, in the 65000 block Winchester Avenue. Roberts was riding as a passenger on Thompson's motorcycle when it allegedly struck a utility pole and then the rear of a parked white Ford F-150 truck. Thompson's blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was determined to be 0.137. In order to minimize the risk and maximize the joy of motorcycling, the West Virginia Department of Transportation started the Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Program, which hopes to enhance public motorcycle safety.
