Florida tractor trailer accident sends one to hospitalby Shawna Dashwood, October 13th, 2011 On Wednesday, October 12, a man was sent to the hospital after a crash involving a tractor trailer in Collier County, Florida, the Cape Coral Daily Breeze reports. The news source states that 68-year-old Eleus Bellot had to be transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries after rescue crews extracted him from his vehicle. Later in the day, Bellot was listed in fair condition. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Bellot was driving west on Enterprise Avenue when a tractor trailer, operated by 69-year-old Octavio Gomez, pulled onto the highway. Gomez turned on to the eastbound lane of the Enterprise Avenue, but half of his rig was obstructing the path of drivers in the westbound lanes. Bellot then allegedly collided with the truck, causing the roof of his Dodge Dakota to be compressed, trapping him in the car. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that 3,380 people were killed in large truck crashes in 2009, marking a 20 percent decrease from the previous year. Contacting a truck accident lawyer after being involved in an accident with a tractor trailer may lead to compensation for injuries, medical bills and other expenses.
