Iowa student killed in accident involving tractor-trailer

A teenager from Le Grand, Iowa, was killed on Monday, August 1, when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a semi-tractor trailer just north of the city, the Time-Republican reports.

According to the news source, 16-year-old Mason Stephens was killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Marshall County medical examiner.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office told the media outlet that the crash happened at the corner of Zeller Avenue and Quarry road at about 8 a.m. Stephens was traveling southbound on Zeller Avenue when he veered into the oncoming northbound lane and was struck by a semi-tractor trailer truck driven by 51-year-old Scott Schneiderman, the media outlet stated.

The semi then hit the driver-side door of the pickup and both vehicles were forced off the road into a ditch. A utility pole was also destroyed as a result of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation by local law enforcement.

According to Trucking Information, an estimated 41,000 to 45,000 tractor-trailer accidents occur every year, prompting many of those victims to contact truck accident lawyers, as legal action can often be taken.
