Iowa suburb plans to implement speed camerasby Shawna Dashwood, March 8th, 2012 In Windsor Heights, Iowa, officials have proposed the use of speed cameras for a busy stretch of road that runs throughout the suburban community. The city council recently voted to approve a contract with Gatso USA, the company in charge of supplying and operating the speed cameras. However, the cameras have a few obstacles to overcome before they are put in place, as there is currently legislature in city council that could possibly ban the use of such speed monitoring statewide, negating the policy if it were to pass. The camera would ideally be used on westbound I-235 between 63rd and 73rd streets as the Windsor Heights police chief, Dennis McDaniel, acknowledges the risks involved on those heavily travelled roads. "We know that Interstate 235, specifically at 63rd Street and 73rd Street, are our two most dangerous roadways in this community. It has our most frequent volume of crashes it also has our most severe crashes," McDaniel said, according to RadioIowa. RadioIowa also reports that Des Moines has recently implemented the speed camera technology and has already seen noticeable revenue, generating $192,000 in December alone. Speeding and traffic violations happen everyday. If you have recently been ticketed for such a citation, contacting a traffic ticket lawyer may be advisable.
