Lions defensive tackle arrested for DUIby Graham Allchurch, May 29th, 2012 Star defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions, Nick Fairley, was arrested early Sunday morning in Alabama after allegedly driving while intoxicated and attempting to evade police. According to the Detroit Free Press, Alabama State Troopers arrested the athlete just after 1 a.m. Sunday. Police told the source Fairley was also given tickets for reckless driving, lacking proof of insurance and having an open container in his car. The Associated Press reported troopers pursued Fairley's Cadillac Escalade after the 24-year-old passed a cop car while driving 100 miles per hour. The source said Fairley failed to pull over for some time, but when he did, officers believed he was under the influence. Information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that in 2009, there were 848 fatalities in all crashes in the state, 280 of which were as a result of drunk driving. Thirty-three percent of all Alabama accident-related deaths involve alcohol, which is higher than the national average.
