Man crashes into building, later charged for DUI for different accident

A man accused of crashing into a Krispy Kreme Donut Shop in Richmond, Virginia, faces additional charges of driving under the influence for a second accident on the same day.

Police have stated that this past Tuesday, Varina church co-pastor, Jay James Bertrand, allegedly crossed multiple lanes of traffic before driving over the sidewalk and crashing into the Krispy Kreme shop. Nobody inside the building was injured. Police stated that Bertrand was then taken to the hospital where he left after refusing medical assistance, according to NBC News 12.

According to police, Bertrand then took his wife's vehicle and was stopped at a red light on Patterson Avenue. Authorities say that he did not move when the light changed, causing the vehicle behind him to drive around. When the driver stopped at the intersection, Bertrand collided into the back of her vehicle. Neither were injured in the incident.

Bertrand told officers that he did not remember what happened, but said he took medications prior to operating the vehicles. He now faces a charge of driving under the influence of drugs as well as reckless driving for the Krispy Kreme incident, the source reported.

Driving under the influence of any impairing substance is illegal and can cause serious injuries. If you or a loved one have been involved in such an accident in any way, it may be advisable to consult a DUI attorney for possible legal action.
