Man killed in Maine tractor trailer accidentby Wanda Derllump, September 16th, 2011 A St. Albans man was killed on Thursday, September 15, after suffering critical injuries in an accident involving a tractor trailer on Route 15 in Monson, Maine, according to the Bangor Daily News. The accident occurred when the semi allegedly jackknifed on a sharp curve and crashed into 37-year-old Travis Butler's dump truck. Butler had to be extricated from the vehicle by a team of firefighters from Greenville, Shirley, Monson and Guilford, and was then rushed to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor at about 12:30 p.m., the news provider reports. Butler was pronounced dead later that evening. According to the media outlet, an investigation conducted by the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department found that the driver of the tractor trailer, Robert Bardwell, was traveling in the northbound lane of Route 15 when he alleged crested the curve and flipped his trailer. The entire rig then reportedly slammed into Butler's truck, crushing the cab. Although no charges have been filed, the accident remains under investigation. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 166 people were killed in multi-vehicle large truck accidents in 2009 nationwide. Those who have been injured by a tractor trailer may want to contact a truck accident lawyer to see what legal options are available.
