New Jersey commuter rail strikes vehicle

On Monday, September 26, a commuter train that had left a station in the Red Bank, New Jersey borough allegedly collided with a vehicle on the tracks, causing delays for riders along the New Jersey Transit Coast Line, the Star-Ledger reports.

According to the news provider, the train departed the station at about 7:45 p.m. on September 26 and was traveling at about 5-to-10 miles per hour when it allegedly struck a vehicle that was crossing the tracks at East Bergen Place.

The female driver of the car was offered medical attention at the scene, while nobody on the train suffered any injuries, the media outlet stated.

The train originally left from New York's Penn Station at 6:30 p.m., but after the accident was running more than an hour late, and caused trains to back up behind the car, resulting in further delays.

The accident is still under investigation.

According to the Federal Railroad Administration, there were 461 train accidents in New Jersey in 2009, resulting in 363 injuries.

Those who have been injured in an accident involving a train may want to contact a train accident lawyer to see what legal action can be taken.
