New York Islanders player sued after car accident

The New York Islanders' Matt Moulson, who was recently signed for $9.4 million, was sued on Wednesday, September 21, by a driver whom Moulson allegedly crashed his SUV into in 2010. And although the hockey player is worth millions, his minimum liability insurance policy of $25,000 was turned down by the plaintiff, who asked for an undisclosed amount from the court, the New York Post reports.

Lisa Caiati's car accident lawyer stated that Moulson was either "clueless or cheap" in retaining such a low policy. Now, 40-year-old Caiati has turned down the $25,000 payout and sued for negligence.

The lawsuit alleges that Moulson caused the June 2010 accident that left Caiati with severe neck and back injuries ranging from a herniated disk to lumbar pain. According to the complaint, Moulson attempted to turn left, but did not see Caiati in the approaching lane, and allegedly crashed into her.

According to the Stamford Advocate, the accident occurred on the West Side of Stamford, Connecticut, at the corner of Selleck Street and Harvard Avenue. The crash allegedly resulted in Caiati being rushed to Stamford Hospital by ambulance, where she was treated for her injuries.
