New York taxi hops curb, injures five

On Wednesday, December 21, a New York City taxi skipped over the curb on the southbound lanes of Park Avenue, colliding with three pedestrians and smashing into a nail salon, NBC New York reports.

New York authorities told the media outlet the cab was heading south when it swerved off the road near the intersection with 30th Street. In addition to the three pedestrians injured, the cab's driver and occupant also suffered injuries in the crash.

The cab driver and two of the pedestrians that were struck are now listed in stable condition, while the third pedestrian refused medical treatment from first responders. The passenger in the cab also declined help from the medical officials.

The accident came just one day after another taxi jumped a curb in Manhattan, injuring four people and knocking over a traffic light and bike racks, according to Manhattan Local News

"I heard the screech of brakes and a bang, then a scream," said Dirk Vandenheuvel, 77, an Upper West Side resident who saw the crash site. "Then everyone came running over."

Those who have been injured in such a pedestrian accident may want to contact a car accident lawyer, as legal options may be available.
