Oklahoma mother files lawsuit against driver after death of son

The mother of a teenage boy from Grady County, Oklahoma, has filed a lawsuit against the parents of the boy who was driving the vehicle in a fatal crash, The Oklahoman reports.

According to the news source, Evan Raasch, 15, was a passenger in a car driven by Matthew Hoskins, 17, that wrecked on January 27, 2011. The lawsuit, filed by Raasch's mother's car accident lawyer, claims the car was traveling more than 100 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

The complaint alleges Hoskin's parents should have known he was an unsafe driver due to his prior tickets and the modifications he had installed on his car that allowed it to easily hit such speeds.

The Oklahoma Highway patrol reported that a second passenger in the car, Briana Hoskins, 15, was thrown 92 feet away from the car. No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 668 fatal car crashes in Oklahoma in 2010, a 9.4 percent decrease from the year before.
