Olympic National Park to be sued for millions after accident involving goat

Olympic National Park in Washington is the focus of several personal injury and wrongful death claims that total $10,022,700 following the death of a hiker on the park's grounds, the Peninsula Daily News reports.

"We are intending to file a wrongful death suit," a personal injury lawyer said on behalf of Susan Chadd, of Port Angeles. "Negligence is the basis, and our goal is to seek justice in this case and wake up the park system."

The claims arose after Bob Boardman, 63, was allegedly gored by a 370-pound mountain goat, causing fatal injuries. Boardman was hiking on Klahhane Ridge with his wife and another friend when the attack reportedly occurred.

Now, Chadd is claiming that the park was "very irresponsible" in suggesting that throwing rocks at the animal, which chief park ranger Colin Smith said he knew was "very aggressive," would keep it a safe distance away.

"I feel that on the day of the accident, they responded very poorly to our calls for help," Chadd stated in an interview.

According to The Associated Press, park spokesman Barb Maynes stated that park officials are refusing to comment on the complaints.
