One dead in Massachusetts Interstate tractor trailer accident

A man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 93 North on Monday, September 19, after his car allegedly collided into a tractor trailer, according to the Medford Patch.

Police reports show that while the tractor trailer was traveling southbound, it lost a tire, which then struck a Ford Mustang. The Mustang's driver had to be rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital for injuries, but was later pronounced dead on Monday evening, the media outlet stated.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the tractor trailer lost its tire in the southbound lanes, but the tire flew through the air, landing in oncoming traffic, hitting the Mustang.

Hydraulic cutting tools had to be used to extract the driver from the vehicle, whose identity has not yet been released, according to the Patch.

Lanes of traffic in both directions had to be closed for cleanup.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,380 people were killed in accidents involving large trucks throughout the country in 2009, marking a 20 percent decrease from similar accidents in 2008.

Those who have been injured in a tractor trailer accident may want to contact a truck accident lawyer, as legal options may be available.
