Pennsylvania woman faces charges in fatal motorcycle accident

Police in Erie, Pennsylvania, have filed charges against a woman from Fairview Township after a motorcycle accident in which one man was killed, Go Erie reports.

Crystal Rioux, 29, has been charged with driving under the influence, careless driving and duties at stop signs in the accident, which occurred in October 2011 at West 21st Street and Greengarden Road. Ralph Iarussi, 62, was killed in the accident.

According to reports, Rioux was driving west on West 31st Street and allegedly failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign. The car she was driving then allegedly pulled in front of Iarussi, who was operating a Honda motorcycle on Greengarden road.

Iarussi was thrown from the bike, and was killed from blunt force trauma, the news source stated. Testing showed Rioux had marijuana in her bloodstream at the time of the accident.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles, 223 motorcyclists were killed in accidents across the state in 2010, compared to 204 the year before. Injuries stemming from motorcycle accidents rose from 3,677 in 2009 to 3,930 in 2010.

Those who have been injured in such a crash may want to contact a motorcycle accident lawyer, as legal options may be available.
