South Carolina truck accident crash leaves one dead, one injured

One person was killed and another injured in a crash in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Monday, January 2, Go Upstate reports.

According to the media outlet, South Carolina Highway Patrol officers stated the accident occurred at the intersection of North Blackstock Road and College Drive when a 2001 Ford pickup truck allegedly collided with a tractor trailer at about 2:20 p.m.

The truck, a 2003 Freightliner driven by 37-year-old Warren Mendoza, allegedly pulled out from College Drive, forcing the pickup driver to swerve out of the way to avoid collision.

The truck then allegedly crossed the center line, striking a 2002 Honda, driven by 15-year-old Tiotr Zubcenco.

The driver of the pickup was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Zubcenco became trapped in the Honda, and was later transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where his condition is currently unknown.

According to the news source, the crash remains under investigation by South Carolina Highway Patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team.

Last year, 810 people were killed in car crashes across South Carolina, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Those injured in a tractor trailer accident may want to contact a truck accident lawyer to determine was legal options are available.
