Super Bowl aftermath sees car crash numbers riseby Graham Allchurch, February 6th, 2012 As the Super Bowl parties wind down, many drivers will take to the roads to return home. However, according to a University of Toronto study, drivers may be at a much higher car accident risk after the viewing parties, Snopes.com reports. According to the news source, researchers at the university found a 41 percent increase in motor vehicle collisions in the hours following the Super Bowl. The study compiled data from the past 27 Super Bowl Sundays, and found that the first hour after the game over was the worst, with the accident rate soaring by 70 percent. The study also concluded that the largest increases in accident rates occurred in the home states of the losing team, where crashes jumped 68 percent once the game was over, compared to 6 percent in the winner's state. In line with the study's conclusion, a man was killed in a car crash in Danvers, Massachusetts, after he was traveling at a high rate of speed along Route 128 the night of the Super Bowl. Investigators have not ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash, according to the Boston Globe. Those who have been injured in such an accident may want to contact a car accident lawyer, as legal options may be available.
