Teenage girl gets speeding ticket after stealing mother's car

A 14-year-old girl was recently issued a speeding ticket in St. Charles County, Missouri, after she reportedly stole her mother's SVU and took it out for a joyride, KMOV 4 News reports.

According to the news source, police say the girl violated juvenile citations when she was pulled over just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26. The St. Charles County Sheriff's Department told the media outlet that the black SUV the girl was driving was exceeding the speed limit by at least 15 miles per hour. The girl was pulled over after exiting Highway 370 at Elm Street.

When the deputy who gave the traffic violation brought the girl back home, her mother said she was not aware her daughter had left the house, or even that the car was missing.

According to the news provider, the girl was given a citation for driving without a license, speeding, failure to maintain a single lane, driving with an expired license plate and a curfew violation.

According to the National Safety Council, speed is involved in about one out of every three fatal crashes. Those who have been injured in such a crash may want to contact an accident lawyer to determine all legal options.
