Texas lawsuit claims motorcycle wheelie caused crash, injuriesby Elizabeth Porter, January 4th, 2012 A woman from Jefferson County, Texas has sued a Louisiana man over a 2011 crash involving a motorcycle which allegedly led to the amputation of her leg, the Southeast Texas Record reports. According to the news source, Krystal Durret's motorcycle accident lawyer filed the suit against Mike A. Prudhomme, claiming he operated his bike in a manner that caused the accident. The complaint was filed in Galveston County District Court. The suit stated that Prudhomme "accelerated his speed at a high rate and popped a wheelie and continued south," and that he then tried to pass another car while still on one wheel. In doing so, Prudhomme allegedly lost control of the bike and veered off the roadway, according to the news source. "The plaintiff was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered severe personal injuries, including the loss of a leg from the hip, as well as other serious injuries." Durrett is now seeking an unspecified amount in monetary damages and a jury trial. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, 429 motorcyclists, including operators and passengers, were killed throughout the state in 2010. Of that total, 56 percent were not wearing helmets during the crash. All content on Accidents.com is for informational purposes only and is NOT intended as legal or medical advice.
