Tractor trailer accidents leave several injured around the country

A recent flurry of truck accidents around the country has left a number of people injured and led to the deaths of others.

According to the Empire State News Net, a truck accident resulted in the death of one motorcyclist in New York on Tuesday, June 5. Authorities told the news source that 19-year-old Stephen Fay was driving his motorcycle in the southbound lanes of East Gate Boulevard when the truck, traveling east on North Avenue, reportedly made a left turn onto East Gate Boulevard.

Investigators say Fay was unable to swerve out of the way of the truck, and hit the vehicle's rear, throwing him from the bike. Emergency medical responders rushed Fay to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:30 a.m.

The news source stated that further investigation revealed the truck driver, 45-year-old Kevin Kizzie, was operating the vehicle with a suspended New York State drivers license. Police charged Kizzie with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree.

Another accident involving a tractor trailer occurred in South Carolina on Tuesday, which led to the death of one driver, WYFF News reports.

According to the news source, the accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m., when 32-year-old Kristy Laws reportedly swerved over the center lane, hit a car, then crashed head-on with a tractor trailer. Laws was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where she later died.

One day later in Florida, a woman from Gulf Breeze and her five-year-old passenger were sent to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries suffered in a tractor trailer accident, the Pensacola news Journal reports.

According to the news source, the Florida Highway Patrol stated the accident occurred at about 8 a.m. while 27-year-old Jessica Lee Hines was waiting at a red light. Truck driver Chauncey Leon Boone, 50, of Riverdale, Georgia, then allegedly failed to stop while approaching the intersection, colliding with the back of the vehicle Hines and her passenger were riding in.

Both passengers were rushed to Sacred Heart Hospital, while a third passenger, 1-year-old Mason Alexander Clark, was uninjured in the crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 3,380 large truck crashes across the country in 2009, the most recent date for which data is available. Those who have been injured in such a crash may want to contact an accident lawyer, legal action may be an option.
