Tractor trailer crash causes severe delays on West Virginia highwayby Wanda Derllump, November 2nd, 2011 After a tractor trailer crashed in the early morning hours on Tuesday, November 1, motorists had to deal with more than nine hours of lane closures and delays, according to the Huntington Herald-Dispatch. The accident was first reported at 5:53 a.m. and was said to have occurred in the 5300 block of West Virginia 2 near Huntington. Cabell County Sheriff Tom McComas stated that the truck, a UPS carrier, was driving in the northbound lane of the road when the trailer dropped off the side, causing the entire rig to spin and roll toward a nearby railroad. Cleanup crews worked for hours to unload the trailer, while officials cancelled all train traffic on worries that the vibrations of the locomotives could send the truck tumbling onto traffic on the road below, according to the media outlet. The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, large truck crashes killed 3,380 people in 2009. Those who have been affected by a tractor trailer accident are encouraged to contact a truck accident lawyer, as many options are likely available.
