Tractor trailer crash shuts down Ohio interstate

The westbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Ohio could be shut down for days after a tractor trailer carrying hazardous materials allegedly crashed and exploded in Hubbard Township on Wednesday, September 7, CBS affiliate WKBN First News reports.

According to the media outlet, the accident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on a bridge roughly one mile from the Hubbard exit. Police stated that the truck, owned by Conway Fright, was carrying ethanol, propane and other petroleum based materials when it crashed.

Witnesses told WKBN that the truck reportedly struck the concrete barrier on the side of the highway, then burst into flames. Now, the westbound lanes of the interstate could be closed for days, as structural damage to the bridge may have resulted from the accident.

State Route 7, which runs north from state Route 62, was closed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol to keep traffic flowing on Route 62, the news provider stated.

According to the the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, more safety measures are needed to protect drivers on the nation's highways.

Those who have been injured in a tractor trailer accident may want to contact a truck accident lawyer, as legal options may be available.
