Virginia plane crashes into water reservoir, pilot injured

A single engine plane crashed into the Swift Creek Reservoir in Chesterfield County, Virginia, on Wednesday, November 2, injuring the only person on board, CBS affiliate WTVR reports.

According to the news source, Virginia State Police stated Richard H. Rose, the 78-year-old pilot and only person on board when the plane crashed, suffered minor injuries, and was treated at the scene by first responders.

"Something inside of the engine became inoperative – and I had a total engine failure," Rose told the news source, adding that he felt lucky to be alive.

Randy Rowecamp, a witness to the accident, stated he was working from home when he heard the crash. Upon looking out the window, the man saw the tail end of the plane sticking out of the water, which was slowly sinking further.

Rowecamp then called 911 and rowed a paddle boat to the survivor, pulling him on board.

According to the National Transportation Safety Bureau, there were 191 civil aviation accidents in 2010, resulting in 61 fatalities.

Those who have been injured or affected by a plane crash may want to contact an aviation accident lawyer, as legal options may be available.
