Widow of deceased motorcyclist sues Illinois construction firm after accidentby Shawna Dashwood, September 30th, 2011 The widow of Tarence Foster, a Joliet Fire lieutenant, has sued a construction company that is currently making repairs on a stretch of Interstate 80 in Illinois, claiming the construction caused her husband's motorcycle accident, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The news provider states that 38-year-old Foster was riding on his motorcycle in the westbound lanes of I-80 on August 19 when he allegedly hit an uneven part of the road near Chicago Street. The rough road reportedly caused him to be thrown from his bike and land on the pavement. After three days in the hospital, Foster was pronounced brain dead. Now, his wife Julie Foster has hired a motorcycle accident lawyer and filed a wrongful death lawsuit, naming D Construction Inc., a company hired by the Illinois Department of Transportation, as the defendant. The suit alleges the company did not properly supervise construction, inspect the work, warn of a public hazard or fix the defects in the road that were allegedly caused by the company's work. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, there were 4,903 motorcycle crashes across the state in 2008, the latest year for which data is available.
