Wisconsin wrongful death claim alleges Ford responsible for fiery car crash

A Madison County, Wisconsin wrongful death lawsuit against Ford Motor Co. and two Alton car dealerships has been filed seeking damages of more than $1 million after a defective product allegedly caused a fiery crash that killed two people, the Madison Record reports.

According to the news source, Beth Brimer and Ronald Thorp hired a car accident lawyer and filed the suit on November 30 in Madison County Circuit Court, naming Ford, Roberts Ford and Roberts Motors as defendants.

"The vehicle was defectively designed and/or manufactured such that the fuel pump module access cover is fastened to the floor of the passenger compartment with the plastic push pins that lack adequate strength to withstand forces created in a roll-over accident, thereby permitting the fuel pump to be ejected into the passenger compartment, releasing gasoline into the vehicle," the suit states.

The 24-count complaints seeks a judgment of more than $1.2 million, plus additional costs.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, there were 517 fatal car crashes in 2010, while another 29,907 injuries were reported.
