
Young man killed in Virgina Motorcycle accidentby Elizabeth Porter, October 7th, 2011 A Portsmouth, Virginia man who was involved in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday, October 5, recently died from the injuries he suffered during the crash, NBC affiliate WAVY-10 reports. According to the news provider, police received a call to the 800 block of Crawford Parkway on October 5 to respond to a one-vehicle accident that occurred in the area. Upon arrival, officers found Keith Barrett Cassel, 23, on the pavement suffering from extensive trauma to his body. Authorities spotted his motorcycle nearby on the curb next to the rear entrance of the Myrtles Condominiums, the media outlet stated. Cassell was rushed to Sentara Norforlk General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 9:55 a.m. on Thursday, October 6. According to WAVY, police believe Cassell lost control of the vehicle, and was ejected from the bike after hitting a curb, causing the bike to flip and land near the condominiums. Speed is thought to be a contributing factor in the crash. According to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, there were 71 motorcycle fatalities across the state in 2009.
